These are the fees Etsy writes down. I am not estimating a “typical” seller. If a number is here, it is from Fees & Payments Policy, Etsy Payments Policy, or How Etsy’s Offsite Ads Work. Check those pages before you file taxes or promise a margin. Etsy can change them.

Listing fee

$0.20 USD per listing on Etsy.com or the mobile apps. You pay it when the listing is published or renewed, even if it never sells. Etsy.com listings expire after four months. Auto-renew charges another $0.20 unless you switch that listing to manual renewal. Editing a listing has no listing fee. Private listings are the exception Etsy calls out: the $0.20 is charged when the private listing sells. Multiple quantities renew at $0.20 after each sale. That is all in the Fees & Payments Policy.

Transaction fee

6.5% of the price you display for each listing, plus shipping and gift wrapping you charge. If you charge for optional personalization, that extra amount is part of the displayed price and is included. If you sell from the US, the transaction fee does not apply to sales tax. Outside the US, Etsy says the fee applies to the listing price (which should include taxes you are responsible for), shipping, and gift wrap. The fee is deducted as the sale happens.

Payment processing

Separate from the 6.5%. Etsy Payments charges a percent of the total sale price plus a flat fee, and the rate depends on where your bank account is. The Payments Policy table lists the United States at 3% + $0.25 USD. The UK is 4% + £0.20. Canada is 3% + $0.25 CAD for domestic orders and orders from the US, and 4% + $0.25 CAD for other international orders. Australia is 3% + $0.25 AUD domestic and 4% + $0.25 AUD international. I am not pasting the full country table here. Use the policy page. The same table is summarized in Etsy’s help article on payment processing fees.

Processing is taken from the total sale price, including shipping and, where it applies, sales tax. A refund credits the processing fee in proportion, per that help article.

Offsite Ads

You pay only when a buyer clicks an Etsy offsite ad and buys from your shop within 30 days. No sale, no fee. One click can attribute more than one order in that window.

  • Always under $10,000 USD in any consecutive 365-day period: 15% of the order, and you can opt out.
  • $10,000 USD or more in any 365-day period: 12%, and Etsy requires you to stay in for the life of the shop. Dropping back under $10,000 does not return you to 15% or to the opt-out.

The fee on a single order never exceeds $100 USD. Revenue in other currencies is converted to USD with the rate Etsy used at the sale. Opt out, if you are eligible, in Shop Manager under Settings, Offsite Ads. All of that is in the Offsite Ads help article.

Etsy Ads, the on-site campaigns you budget yourself, are a different product. If the buyer’s last click was an Etsy Ad, Etsy says only the Etsy Ads fee applies, not Offsite Ads.

One US order, with the arithmetic shown

Item $32.00, shipping $5.00, no gift wrap, no personalization, no Offsite Ads. Order amount for the transaction fee is $37.00.

  • Listing fee: $0.20
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% of $37.00 = $2.405, which is $2.41 to the cent
  • Processing, US bank account: 3% of $37.00 = $1.11, plus $0.25 = $1.36
  • Offsite Ads: $0 on this example

Fees before your costs: $0.20 + $2.41 + $1.36 = $3.97. Money collected from the buyer is $37.00, so $33.03 is left before materials, labor, and your own shipping cost. If this order were attributed to Offsite Ads at 15%, Etsy’s help page describes that fee as a percent of the order total, capped at $100. 15% of $37.00 is $5.55. At 12% it is $4.44.

NicheKite’s fee calculator is a browser estimate of the published rates. The ads field on that calculator applies the percent to the item price you type, which is a simpler input than “entire order total” in Etsy’s Offsite Ads article. Read the labels. It does not log into your shop.

Fees do not tell you which keyword to make. They tell you whether the price you see on page one survives the bill. That is the only reason this page sits next to the SEO guide.
